Landscape Painting, Artist Exploration; Process Portfolio Screens

My original concept: Explore the different media and develop observation skills, through an artist technique and control of color to make the picture harmonious and the contract between cold and warm color by using a landscape picture I took.

I choose this technique of Sisley to practice because he uses calm landscapes and more restrained colors with simple from and broken colors.

Artist investigation: Alfred Sisley

In the artist investigation:

I focus on the artwork by the artists and analyze his techniques and concepts. And do some practice of the technique and experiences such as buildings and color breaking using markers and pencil.

Decided what to use for the painting that I going to paint, I found that Sisley’s painting has so rich change in the sky and color in the lower layer, and see his artwork makes me feel peaceful.

This is the picture that I choose to observe, It was a day of my winter break in the afternoon I sat in the car and watched the view from outside it is an enjoyable moment. My oldest brother was driving, my cousin and my second brother is beside me at the back sit, we were going to an outlet. We are attracted by the view of seeing the mountain become the purple and orange cause of the light of sunset, this is the picture that I took in the car.

Process of painting

I discover that the concentration and ratio of paint and water is the key to making the composition united, as I mix the color I find that if the water on the brush is too much will affect the texture of the brushstrokes on the canvas it will makes the picture lack of unity.

Draw from the top to the bottom, and add the main color of the picture. Then, add the color details at the mountain.

I changed the texture of the sky and the angle of the buildings on the bottom

To follow Sisley’s style which is rich brushstrokes and color.

The angle of the building is to create the depth of field.

Adding the color details at the bottom, and making the scene of speed through blurring and lines.

Making the light of the building at the front matching to the tone of the composition.
